Mom's Dill Pickles
I am lucky that there are lots of people willing to use Bubba's recipes.
Bubba's grandson, Thomas had a chance to learn with Bubba how to make her dill pickles and continues to follow her recipe to make these delicious treats.
Thomas says the recipe was easy to follow and he had great results. I know over the holidays Thomas' pickles were enjoyed by many.
When Bubba made the dill pickles, you felt very lucky to be gifted a jar. Now Thomas is in the position of gifting these delicious pickles.
RECIPE:
Ingredients for each quart jar:
1 bay leaf
5 whole black pepper corns
1 clove garlic
1 heaping tablespoon pickling salt
1 grape leaf
1 head dill (top and bottom)
ice water to fill
DIRECTIONS:
Wash pickles carefully removing any bruises or bad spots
Soak in cold water overnight.
Next day - rinse well, snip ends of pickles.
Put ingredients in jars - pack in pickles and fill with ice water. Put in sink so when they ferment they do not ruin the table or floor.
Shake twice a day for three days.
On the 3rd day - open - fill to top with more ice water.
Seal tightly, shake again and put away in cool place.
